This letter urges doctors to review the abundant biological evidence linking induced abortion with increased breast cancer risk, so that they can consider what legal obligations they might have to properly inform their patients.
The world's first abortion-breast cancer medical malpractice settlements were reported in the U.S. and Australia in recent years. Although neither plaintiff developed the disease, each sued her physician for having neglected to inform her about the risks of breast cancer and emotional harm. The amounts of the settlements are undisclosed. Additional lawsuits have since been filed in both countries.
