Dear Friends:
Two physicians wrote a story for News Max about my article, "The Abortion-Breast Cancer Link: How Politics Trumped Science and Informed Consent," published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons this summer. The physicians, Michael Glueck, MD and Robert Cihak, MD, have differing views with respect to abortion. One is an abortion supporter. The other is not. Both agree that women "have the right to know the facts" about abortion.
Glueck and Cihak wrote that the failures of the cancer establishment and other medical and scientific authorities to acknowledge the relationship between abortion and breast cancer "are an egregious example of medical organizations also suffering from the New York Times Syndrome…." They explained that these groups "place a higher priority on political sensitivities than on accurate reporting of the general or scientific news."
You can find a link for their article, "Politics and the Abortion-Breast Cancer Link," listed under our news headlines shown below.
Second, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has an unusually worded statement about the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) research on its web pages. Listed under the heading, "Factors with Uncertain, Controversial, or Unproven Effect on Breast Cancer Risk," the statement says:
"Induced abortion: Several studies have provided very strong data that induced abortions have no overall effect on the risk of breast cancer. Also, there is no evidence of a direct relationship between breast cancer and spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) in most of the studies that have been published. This, however, is still controversial, with some doctors believing that abortion does increase the risk of breast cancer."
The first sentence omits the fact that most studies report risk elevations and that scientists haven't been able to disprove the biological explanation for the link.
The second sentence concerning miscarriages would imply that most studies report risk elevations. This is, in fact, the truth. Thirteen out of 16 U.S. studies found increased risk among women who chose to abort. Most miscarriages are unrelated to increased risk of breast cancer because most are precipitated by a fall in progesterone levels. Progesterone is necessary to maintain a pregnancy. Estrogen, a secondary carcinogen, is made from progesterone.
Your efforts are making a difference. The ACS is experiencing pressure from activists who strenuously object to the cancer groups' fictitious statements about the ABC research.
Spread the word.
Sincerely, Karen Malec President Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer
