Dear Friends:

Cybercast News Service has provided another story about an unconventional relationship between a cancer fundraising group and an organization whose "services" cause women to develop breast cancer.  The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (SGK) is supposedly dedicated to the "eradication of breast cancer," but two years ago the cancer fundraising business gave more than $475,000 to Planned Parenthood (PP), an abortion provider funded by U.S. taxpayers.

SGK justifies its gifts to PP by arguing that the abortion provider provides breast exams to the poor.  However, during the past five years PP's overall revenue and the number of abortion sales have increased, while breast exams have declined 13.3%.

When Pamela Maraldo headed PP in the 1990's, she tried to take the organization into the direction of providing genuine health care services, but she was opposed by others at PP.  She stepped down soon thereafter.  This incident demonstrated PP's indifference to legitimate health care.

Not one of the breast cancer fundraising businesses has ever publicly denounced PP even though scientists agree that the best way to prevent the disease is by having more children, starting early before age 24, and breastfeeding them longer.

SGK's bias in favor of PP inhibits the ability of its experts to objectively examine the evidence supporting abortion as a risk factor for breast cancer.

Sincerely,
Karen Malec
