Dear Friends:
Last week, it was reported in The Washington Times and other publications that scientists at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have determined that there are more neonatal deaths that can be attributed to premature birth than what was previously believed. Their findings were published in the journal Pediatrics. [1] Although birth defects were previously considered the greatest cause of infant mortality rates, this research demonstrated that premature birth is the greatest cause.
CDC scientists made no mention of the nasty "a" word, although abortion is a well-established risk factor for premature birth. The Institute of Medicine acknowledged "prior first trimester abortion" as a risk factor in its report released in July 2006, and at least 60 out of 60 studies dating from 1963 report risk increases for women who have abortions. [2,3]
March of Dimes officials, however, are wringing their hands and scratching their heads over the problem of premature birth. They can't seem to figure out why there are so many premature births in the U.S.
How many fewer premature births, infant deaths and cases of cerebral palsy might there be if the March of Dimes had warned women about this evidence on a timely basis - three decades ago when the abortion-premature birth link became apparent to the communist Hungarian government? In 1976, the Hungarian government restricted abortions because of the abortion-premature birth link.
Two letters to the editor of The Washington Times have been published in the last week on the subject of premature birth and breast cancer and their links to abortion.
The first letter, "How surgical abortion increases premature births," was authored by Dr. William Colliton, Jr. It is available at: http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20061003-084818-7060r.htm
The second letter, "Abortions and breast cancer," was authored by yours truly. It is available at: http://washtimes.com/op-ed/20061007-104912-5661r_page2.htm
Spread the word.
Sincerely, Karen Malec Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer
