Dear Friends:

We have two matters to report to you, and we offer (below) three action items for activists who care about women and children.

MOODY BROADCASTING NETWORK

Last week, Moody Broadcasting Network interviewed Angela Lanfranchi, MD, FACS of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center about a new article she has written for the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons that will be published in March.  The article is entitled "The Federal Government and Academic Texts as Barriers to Informed Consent."

Dr. Lanfranchi's interview provides some shocking examples of bias among the gatekeepers of medicine who've taken an active stand against informing women about the abortion-breast cancer link and the risk of using hormonal contraceptives. These are people who have allowed their medical ideology to interfere with their professional judgment at the expense of women's health.

Women like Charnette Messe (who asked for our prayers on Tuesday) are suffering so terribly from breast cancer because the gatekeepers of medicine in the U.S. belong to the culture of death. They deprived Charnette of her right to be fully informed about the breast cancer risks associated with abortion and the use of hormonal contraceptives, although they had sufficient evidence to issue a warning by the mid-1980s.  By robbing her of her legal right to informed consent, these experts made the choice for Charnette (and others like her).

Listen to Dr. Lanfranchi's interview to learn why women aren't hearing from the mainstream media about the abortion-breast cancer link.  Go to the website below and scroll down to her interview on January 24, 2008.

LOS ANGELES TIMES BIAS

Two weeks ago, a story in the Los Angeles Times by Stephanie Simon repeated the false claim that crisis pregnancy centers give women misleading information about the abortion-breast cancer link. ("Abortions down 25% from peak," January 17, 2008)

Either it's a case of sloppy reporting or Simon is impervious to the truth.

Only three months ago, research by Patrick Carroll showed that future breast cancer rates can be predicted with nearly 100% accuracy by using a nation's abortion rates and (to a lesser extent) its fertility rates. [1]  Carroll's research was subsequently reported in a magazine for insurance professionals, The Actuary. [2]

Other medical journal articles published in 2005 have concluded that the studies used by the abortion industry to deny the abortion-breast cancer link are fatally flawed. [3,4]  No experts have ever challenged these conclusions.

To our knowledge, the Los Angeles Times ignored all of these stories, but last spring, the newspaper was quick to publish a study by Harvard scientists claiming no link between abortion and breast cancer. [5,6]  Within two months, the Harvard paper was proven in a medical journal to be seriously flawed [7], but (to our knowledge) the Los Angeles Times never informed its readers.

At the very least, readers of the Los Angeles Times are entitled to know about two out of three acknowledged breast cancer risks associated with abortion - premature birth before 32 weeks gestation and delayed first full term pregnancy.  If, as cancer groups claim, delaying the birth of a first child raises risk, then it's incontrovertible that the childless woman who has an abortion has a greater breast cancer risk than does the one who has a baby.

ACTION ITEMS

1) Write to the Los Angeles Times at <letters@latimes.com>.  Politely remind the editors that news stories that deny women the truth will only cause more young mothers like Charnette to suffer from the disease and more children to lose their mothers. Tell them to listen to Dr. Lanfranchi's radio interview to learn why members of the media aren't hearing the truth about the link from the gatekeepers in medicine. Include the links to Dr. Lanfranchi's radio interview and Charnette Messe's website (<http://www.CharnetteMesse.com>).

2. Send the links to Charnette's website and Dr. Lanfranchi's interview to journalists in your hometown and ask them to report the truth.

3. Send the link to Charnette's website to the cancer groups that have turned cancer into a business and continue to lie to women about the abortion-breast cancer link.  Ask them how many mothers must die so they can fill their coffers.

Sincerely,

Karen Malec
