Dear Friends:
Kudos to Leslie Hanks and her colleagues at Colorado Right to Life! They demonstrated their political courage in Denver on Sunday, October 5, 2008 by showing up at the Race for the Cure with their Truth Truck which carried a banner advertising the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer's website, www.AbortionBreastCancer.com. The banner shown here reads,
"What? An abortion increases my risk for breast cancer? Why aren't women being told? Komen's Dana Brandorff answered....'We tend to focus on the cure....We're focusing our energies on that, rather than the preventative."
According to the Rocky Mountain News, some 60,000 people attended the Race for the Cure to raise money for the cause. Most cancer walkers have good intentions. They want to help people afflicted with breast cancer. However, few are aware that most breast cancer patients are already being cured. In fact, if a woman is diagnosed with in situ breast cancer - and early form of the disease - there is a 100% cure rate with mastectomy and a 97% cure rate with partial mastectomy and radiation.
Komen and other cancer fundraising businesses scare women by leading them to believe there is no cure for the disease. It is one of many marketing devices that these groups use to raise money.
Komen claims to want to find a cure, but doesn't want women to know what is the most preventable cause of breast cancer - induced abortion. According to STOPP Planned Parenthood, Komen gave more than $700,000 last year to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood is a primary cause of breast cancer in the U.S.
Sincerely,
Karen Malec
