How many doctors make a point of telling pregnant women who are
contemplating an abortion about the link between having an abortion and
having a premature birth later in life?
After all of the hullabaloo in 2006 about the Institute of Medicine's
report on the U.S. premature birth rate shooting up by 43% between 1980
and 2005, how many journalists bothered to inform women that the
Institute of Medicine listed abortion as a risk factor for premature
birth in the appendix of its book, Preterm Birth?
Yesterday, Canadian journalist Barbara Kay of the National Post broke
the politically correct commandment, "Thou shalt not diss abortion." Be

Ms. Kay about these three breast
cancer risks associated with abortion:
1. Medical texts agree that childbearing offers women significant
protection from breast cancer. Research by Russo and Russo shows that
85% of the childless woman's breast lobules (which are almost entirely
cancer-susceptible) become permanently cancer-resistant by the time of
delivery at 40 weeks gestation. Why aren't women being told that
abortion will cause them to forfeit the protective effect of a full
term pregnancy?
2. Eight medical organizations agree that abortion further raises
breast cancer risk by leaving the breasts with more places for cancers
to start.
3. The link between abortion and premature birth provides another way
that women are put at risk for breast cancer. Four studies show that
women who have a premature birth before 32 weeks of pregnancy increase
their breast cancer risk. No scientists have bothered to challenge
these findings because the studies are about premature birth, not the
nasty "A word." But the evidence provides strong biological support for
risk #2 above since the hormonal changes to the breasts are the same
whether the mother delivers a living or dead child.
