Dear Friends:
On either Thursday
or Friday of this week, the U.S. House of Representatives is expected
to vote on Healthcare Reform. The outcome will influence breast cancer
rates in the U.S. since the healthcare
bill, H.R. 3200, mandates the use of government funds to pay for
elective abortions through
two
new federal programs.
More women will
have abortions if government funds will be available to pay for them. The rates of
breast cancer for American women and premature birth for their babies will increase, as a result of
this legislation.
If you have strong
opinions about the use of your taxpayer funds for abortion and reducing
the rates of breast cancer and premature birth, then call your legislator at both the local and
the Washington, D.C. offices several times this week to let him or her know what
your position is.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to rush
the healthcare reform bill, H.R. 3200, through the House on
Thursday or
Friday this week without permitting
legislators to vote on Congressman Bart Stupak's amendment. Stupak's amendment prohibits the use
of government funds for elective abortions.
Pelosi plans to
force H.R. 3200 through the House by using a procedure called the
"closed rule."
If House legislators vote "No" on the
closed rule, then Stupak's amendment prohibiting the use
of government funds for elective abortions can be considered for a vote
in the House.
If House legislators vote "Yes" on the
closed rule, then Pelosi can rush the healthcare
reform bill, H.R. 3200, through the House without a vote
being allowed on Stupak's amendment, which prohibits the use of your
taxpayer money for elective abortions.
Legislators who
vote "No" to the closed rule and "No" to the healthcare reform bill HR
3200 will be: 1) Helping to reduce the rates of breast cancer for
mothers and premature birth for babies; and 2) Voting against the use
of government funds for elective abortions.
If you feel strongly about this, then call
and e-mail your legislators several times this week at
both their local and Washington, D.C. offices.
