ABORTION-BREAST CANCER LINK, HORMONES DISCUSSED AT NATIONAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

Attorneys attending a conference sponsored by the National Lawyers
Association at Chicago's Kent College of Law on August 1 heard speakers
discuss the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) link and the role of hormones in
the development of breast cancer.

Mayer Eisenstein, MD, JD, MPH, said that estrogen is connected with the
development of most breast cancers.  Eisenstein's speech is relevant to the
ABC link because women are exposed to more estrogen during normal
pregnancies (but not most miscarriages) than at any other time during their
lives.  This effect is only corrected in the third trimester when breast
cells are matured into cancer-resistant tissue.

The government's Report on Carcinogens included steroidal estrogens (used
in oral contraceptives and estrogen replacement therapy) on its list of
"known carcinogens" last year.

Eisenstein said, "Anyone who's on (them) unavoidably increases breast
cancer risk."  Having more children, starting at an earlier age, reduces
lifetime risk.

Jeanette Joyce, B.A., R.T. (R) (M), a mammography educator and breast
cancer survivor, is a board member at the Coalition on Abortion/Breast
Cancer. Joyce identified five medical groups, which acknowledge a causal
relationship between abortion and breast cancer. [1]  She discussed a law
review article whose author argued that abortion providers are liable if
they don't inform women of the risk. [2]

She explained, "Estrogen levels increase 2000% in the first trimester of
pregnancy, causing ... multiplication and division (of breast cells)."  At
32 weeks gestation, multiplication stops and cells are matured into
cancer-resistant, milk-producing tissue.

Early maturity of a woman's breast tissue provides early protection against
carcinogens. By starting a family at a young age, a woman decreases her risk
of breast cancer because her breast tissue matured early in her menstrual
life into types 3 and 4 lobules.

Joyce asserted that the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer
Institute have lost their credibility.  She labeled the concealment of the
research for 46 years a "government cover-up."

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer is an international women's
organization founded to protect the health and save the lives of women by
educating and providing information on abortion as a risk factor for breast
cancer.
